To be held 29 January, University of Calgary. Abstract deadline is
January 10, 2011.
Please send all abstracts to Jaime Hood at jlhood at ucalgary.ca
<mailto:jlhood at ucalgary.ca>. If you don't want to present, but would
still like to attend, please RSVP to Jaime so they can make sure there

2. Research Hydrologist, Chile*

Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Zonas Aridas / Center of Advanced
Research in Arid Zones, La Serena, Chile

We invite applications for a 3-year renewable researcher position in
Hydrology to join a group of young international scientists at CEAZA*.
The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects and develop
his/her own research on the wide range of hydrological processes
involved in the water cycle of the semiarid Northern-Central Chile,
including snow and glacier melt, groundwater flow and water use by
irrigation. He/She will work in close collaboration with researchers in
Glaciology, Hydrogeology and Water Management, but may also develop
innovative research projects with biologists and climate scientists.

He/She will contribute to the development of a regional water
observatory. This long-term project will generate data and therefore
facilitate quantitative analysis of the interactions between regional
water resources and climate.

The candidates must have a *PhD in Hydrology *or a related discipline.
They must demonstrate their ability to use hydrological models and their
interest in multidisciplinary research. Experience in remote sensing
data processing is an asset. Knowledge of Spanish language is not required.

Gross salary is 1'537'500 Chilean pesos per month, plus bonuses for
project managements.

Applications should be written in English or Spanish and include:

    * A cover letter summarizing experience and motivation for this position
    * A curriculum vitae, including a list of peer-reviewed publications
    * A copy of PhD or Master diploma and other documents showing
degrees and former positions relevant for this position
    * A list of 2 potential referees

Applications should be submitted by E-mail to Dr. Bernardo Broitman
(bernardo.broitman at ceaza.cl <http://ceaza.cl>).

Review of applications will begin on January 3rd, 2011 and will continue
until no longer needed. Starting date is negotiable, but not later than
March 2011.

*CEAZA (Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Zonas Aridas) is a non-profit
scientific research center, established in 2003. It is dedicated to
studying the impact of large climatic variability (e.g. ENSO) upon the
hydrological cycle and the biological productivity in the arid zones of
Northern-Central Chile. The successful applicant will work as part of
the Hydrology and Modeling group at CEAZA. More information about CEAZA
and ongoing projects can be found at http://www.ceaza.cl. Do not
hesitate to contact Dr. Bernardo Broitman (bernardo.broitman at ceaza.cl
<http://ceaza.cl>) for any additional details.

*3. **Dr. Donald Gray PhD Scholarship in Canadian Hydrology

*The CGU invites applications for the DM Gray Scholarship in Canadian
Hydrology. Created to honour the memory of Donald Maurice Gray
(1929-2005), this scholarship will be awarded to a promising doctoral
candidate in hydrology. The scholarship is valued at $2500, and is
awarded annually at the spring meeting of the Canadian Geophysical
Union. All doctoral candidates in hydrology are eligible, provided that
they are in their first 24 months of study at the time of application.
While applicants must be registered at a Canadian university, field
research (if applicable) can be undertaken anywhere in the world.

The application deadline is 31 January 2011. To apply, please send
official academic transcripts, a research proposal, current CV, and two
letters of reference to:

Dr. Sarah Boon, Secretary
Canadian Geophysical Union -- Hydrology Section
Department of Geography
University of Lethbridge
4401 University Drive
Lethbridge, AB
T1K 3M4
sarah.boon at uleth.ca <mailto:sarah.boon at uleth.ca>

Applications will be assessed based on academic excellence (30%),
research ability and potential (50%) and communication, interpersonal
and leadership abilities (20%).

*4. Registration Now Open - Zeroflow: PUB Workshop on Intermittent Streams*

Registration is now open for this workshop, held 23-25 February in
Drumheller, AB.
Cost is $100 for CWRA/CSHS members and $120 for non-members. Late
registration fees will apply after 25 January.

*5. FINAL PUBLICATION -- The Compendium of Forest Hydrology and
Geomorphology in British Columbia*

The Compendium consolidates current scientific knowledge and operational
experience on watershed science and management into 19 chapters and over
800 pages. Chapters in the Compendium summarize the basic scientific
information necessary to manage water resources in forested
environments, explaining watershed processes and the effects of
disturbances across different regions of the province.

The Compendium has been co-published by the BC Ministry of Forests and
Range and FORREX <http://www.forrex.org>as Land Management Handbook No.
66 <http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/pubs/Docs/Lmh/Lmh66.htm>.

_*Important note*_ -- this version of the Compendium replaces all draft
chapters and appendices downloaded between 2005 to present from the
FORREX website.
