[reminder] Editors : Ariane Pinche and Peter Stokes Journal of Data Mining and Digital Humanities With this special issue of the Journal of Data Mining and Digital Humanities (JDMDH), we wish to bring together in one single volume several experiments, projects and reflections related to automatic text recognition on historical documents. To address these issues, we propose the following three axes: - Axis 1: Sources, constitution and sharing of training data. - Axis 2: Machine learning - Axis 3: Feedback and data exploitation This special issue aims to provide an overview of the use of HTR or OCR on historical documents, as its uses multiply and more and more research projects and cultural heritage institutions become interested in it. Through the Journal of Data Mining and Digital Humanities, we are delighted to offer an opportunity to all those who wish to make their own contribution to the field or to share their experience by exposing their successes, their questions and their difficulties, or even failure. By publishing this special issue, we hope to present a state of the art of the uses of automatic handwriting recognition today. Now I have had a chat with a friend who is doing a translation of a Merovingian saint's life and who wonders if there is any such thing in existence as a digital Biblical concordance. This would allow the user to compare their electronic text of interest with the text of the Vulgate (or vetus Latina.. why not) and have returned a list of words in their text which are in the Latin Bible, or CONVERSELY which are NOT in the Latin Bible. It seems that such a useful tool should already exist and I thought I might ask you all if you know of this being in existence or of an expert to consult with. The seminar will deal with artistic trends in new media, digital cultures and geospatial technologies. One can attend this and the next seminars both in presence and online. There are many actors involved: companies, service platforms, governments, hacker communities, and last but not least, artists who (as often has been the case in the history of New Media Art) underpin technical shifts, finding an exceptionally active role in the establishment of terminology and the shaping of the aesthetic-technological landscape. From this comes an interesting interdependency with the mobile business and telecommunication companies, which in turn are looking for imaginative paths to establish themselves in the just emerging field of handheld applications. A productive exercise in which the video game industry will also claim its own identity, amidst totally artistic figurations or more horizontal collective explorations, where augmented reality, network systems, and technologically advanced psychogeographic memories enter the commercial domain and then flow back into creativity. It is with great pleasure that the Lydgate Society seeks proposals for 20-minute papers and roundtable participants for the 58th Annual International Congress for Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University, to take place in person and virtually May 11th-13th, 2023. If you have work that would fit either of the calls listed below we encourage you to submit your proposals or contact me at this email address to seek further information. Full descriptions of the two sessions can be found on the attached flier or via the Congress website, and all proposals must be submitted via the Confex system there.
