Dear colleagues,
I would like to bring to your attention a PhD-position at Radboud University Nijmegen, advertised in the context of the MSCA Doctoral Network 'MECANO: Mechanics of Canon Formation and the Transmission of Knowledge from Greco-Roman Antiquity’.
MECANO brings together five universities and an array of academic and non-academic institutions interested in the topic of canonicity. MECANO's twofold goal is to develop a new model for the study of canonicity and to train ten PhD researchers to become versatile intellectuals ready to tackle the challenges of modern engagement with the topics of canonicity, diversity, and cultural heritage.
PhD position: 'Recovering Anonymous Late-Antique Preachers in the Corpus of Pseudo-Augustinian Sermons’ (Supervised by Dr Shari Boodts (Radboud Institute for Culture & History) and Prof. Gert Partoens (KU Leuven))
This PhD project centres on the corpus of anonymous late-antique sermons which travelled under the name of Augustine in the medieval manuscript tradition. This project seeks to open up and valorise this important and understudied corpus by describing and analysing the sermons of forgotten late-antique preachers, preserved through their association with Augustine. The project combines expertise in Latin philology and medieval manuscript studies with a focus on digital methods and data science.
The vacancy is open to applicants of all nationalities who comply with the MSCA mobility requirement: not having resided in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 36 months preceding appointment. The deadline for application is 31 January 2024.

Wishing you a lovely Holiday Season,

Dear members of the Digital Medievalist community,
I am writing to let you know that we will be moving the Digital Medievalist Mailing List, <dm-l> to a new, more sustainable platform managed by JiscMail. This move comes as part of our updates to the digital infrastructure of Digital Medievalist in its 20th year as an organisation. JiscMail<https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/> is the mailing list service provided by Jisc<https://www.jisc.ac.uk/>, a not-for-profit organisation serving as the UK’s digital, data and technology agency focused on tertiary education, research and innovation.
As a member of <dm-l>, you are a member of Digital Medievalist<https://digitalmedievalist.org/membership/>. This email is to notify you of the mailing list move; there is no change in your membership and you do not need to do anything. The email address with which you are registered to the current mailing list will be transferred to the new platform. We will inform all members when the move is completed. The current list will remain open for posts until the new platform is fully functional. Archived posts may be viewed on the Lethbridge DM-L Archive<https://listserv.uleth.ca/hyperkitty/list/dm-l@uleth.ca/>.
The new <dm-l> page<https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=dm-l> will allow for subscribing/unsubscribing and posting messages from January 2024 as well as viewing archived posts. The <dm-l> privacy policy will remain the same and all posts will remain to be public. Please feel free to get in touch with us<mailto:DM-L-request@jiscmail.ac.uk?subject=DM%20List%20Query> if you have any questions or concerns about your Digital Medievalist membership or the DM-L move.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the University of Lethbridge, in particular Dan O’Donnell, who is one of the founding members of Digital Medievalist and who initiated <dm-l>, as well as all past moderators of <dm-l> for their support of Digital Medievalist over the years.
All best wishes for the holidays and a Happy New Year!

Dear all,
This summer, we are leading a digital humanities summer institute in Vercelli, Italy. This program is aimed to teach multispectral imaging, 3D modeling, and other digital humanities technologies, as well as traditional manuscript skills such as codicology and paleography. The summer program will take place and in collaboration with a renowned archive of medieval manuscripts, which includes the famed Vercelli Book and a large Mappa Mundi. We aim to make this program accessible to graduate students, contingent faculty, and tenured/tenure-track faculty. We are particularly interested in bringing together librarians, archivists, grad students, and faculty. Please see the attached flyer and blurb below for more information. I am happy to chat with anyone who may be interested in joining us.

The Videntes Imaging Collective is delighted to announce its 2024 Summer Digital Humanities Institute held in Vercelli, Italy: Medieval Manuscripts in a Modern World. Participants will engage in five days of workshops, lectures, and labs designed around materials held by the Capitular Archives of Vercelli. In collaboration with the Museo del Tesoro di Vercelli and the Capitular Archives this institute will engage the use of traditional approaches to medieval texts such as codicology and paleography alongside innovative technologies such as multispectral imaging and photogrammetry, all with an eye towards using digital tools for knowledge-sharing, such as VisColl and Digital Mappa. Participants will learn about the DH project life cycle, meet like-minded international scholars, and experience a truly collaborative DH team at work.
If you are a librarian, early career scholar, graduate student, conservator, archivist, Digital Humanities enthusiast, click on the link above to ensure you will be notified when registration opens.
The DH Institute will be led by:
* Dr. Helen Davies (University of Colorado Colorado Springs) Digital Humanities, Multispectral Imaging, Medieval Literature, Manuscript Studies
* Dr. Evan Gatti (Elon University) Art History, Museum Studies and Public History

Hello all,
I am Haripriya Mehta, an MIT alum, co-founder of MehtA+<https://mehtaplustutoring.com/>, based in the US and head instructor of AI/Machine Learning Research bootcamp.
For the past several summers, we have successfully taught 75+ high school students, who have applied advanced AI/machine learning techniques to the digital humanities and the sciences, completing projects independently and with universities such as Northeastern University<https://wwp.northeastern.edu/blog/machine-learning/>, Williams College, Singapore Institute of Technology and University of Bologna, Italy.
Examples of past projects<https://github.com/MehtaPlusTutoring/studentprojects/tree/main/aimlresearch…> include improving upon a Greek lemmatizer, building a better search function for an art museum, dating an Italian philosopher's texts using handwriting recognition, classifying whether a patient has melanoma using images of skin lesions, charting the evolution of the word "que" in the Spanish language and determining the author of disputed Federalist papers.
For this upcoming summer, we are looking to partner up with scholars (professors/PhD students/postdocs) in the humanities/sciences/engineering in need of help in applying AI techniques to their work. Our staff will mentor students on computational aspects of the project, and the scholar will volunteer their time to provide datasets and domain knowledge that will help students work on the project. Expected time commitment would be ~2-4 hours during the summer. Projects that are of a predictive/classification nature, and that may involve natural language processing or image recognition are ideal for this camp.
If there are other computational projects (app development/web development, etc.) that you would like our students' help with or if you are unsure if AI/machine learning techniques that we teach in our camp will be applicable to your work, please still feel free to reach out! Our students have created a mobile app for an educational startup, an educational website for a kidney transplant surgeon and a data visualization for the University of Buffalo SUNY's Marianne Moore Digital Archive.
If you know anyone who would be interested in such a collaboration, please feel free to forward this email.
I would be happy to hop on a Zoom call with you if you would like to discuss this more.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Haripriya Mehta
Co-founder of MehtA+
