This talk introduces Erasmiana Digital, an experiment that allows users to converse with an AI Erasmus backed by a newly digitized corpus of his works. Using OCR, large language models, and semantic search, the project reimagines how Erasmus’s writings can be explored and understood today. Alongside a demonstration of the site, this talk reflects on the promises and risks of digitization and AI. Erasmus rode the revolution of the printing press to spread knowledge and debate, and today we face a new technological upheaval in artificial intelligence. What do we stand to gain – and lose – if we embrace new media in our pursuit of learning and exchange? Biographical Info Victor Temprano is a software developer, writer, and independent scholar with an MA in Religious Studies from McGill University. He is the founder of Native-Land.ca and the CEO of Mapster Technology. He has been involved in many software projects both commercial and academic spanning public history, data analysis, mapping, and language revitalization. He is honoured to be the 2025 Erasmus Collection Fellow.
