Dear Digital Medievalists,
on Monday 28 July 2025 at 15:00 BST = 16:00 CEST/Rome, Paolo Monella and
Andrea La Veglia will be leading an open Digital Classicist wiki editing
sprint themed "Viva l'Italia!", including an introductory short training
session in English on how to edit the wiki itself.
What is the Digital Classicist Wiki (wiki.digitalclassicist.org)?
It is a collaboratively edited catalogue of projects, tools, methods and
other topics in the application of digital humanities to ancient world
studies. If you would like to contribute to the maintenance and editing
of this platform, please join us for this introductory workshop and
tutorial.
What will we do in the initial training session?
The initial session will introduce the Wiki, its goals and scope, and
the simple wiki-syntax with which it is edited (the same MediaWiki
platform as Wikipedia and related wikis). It will involve a short
tutorial and demonstration of the interface, followed by the opportunity
to practice editing on the live Wiki, with one-to-one support from
experienced editors.
Theme
The "Viva l'Italia!" theme is mostly a tribute to the numerosity of the
Italian members of the Digital Classicist (DC) community. Paolo and
Andrea will be mostly focussing on digital projects from Italy or by
Italians abroad, but everyone is welcome to contribute on whatever page
and in whatever way.
Booking
Advance booking is required
(https://ics.sas.ac.uk/events/introduction-digital-classicist-wiki-editing).
If you do not already have an account on the Digital Classicist Wiki,
please contact one of the site administrators *before the day of the
session* to request a new account be created for you.
Best,
Paolo Monella
Andrea La Veglia
