Very powerful post, Ernesto, and a good example of some situations I myself have been in while 1) a Master’s student in the UK and 2) a visiting researcher in the UK. I am returning to the UK on Monday for three months to study at Cambridge and can already anticipate the ridiculous line of questioning I will receive because I purchased a one way ticket to save money. My last name (Martinez) always brings up flags and it’s nearly impossible to convince them that I’m not married because I don’t “look Mexican.” Well, I’m American. Even when I show residence permits, discuss my previous work as a Tier 4, and try to reason with them that I have no plans to illegally abscond in the UK, I still am put through the ringer. Thank you for sharing.
