As many of you know, DayofDH 2014 will take place on April 8. At RedDH we came up with the idea of doing a collective translation exercise of our work in Spanish into any other language we can: a sort of translate-a-thon on that day. The exercise has also been proposed to HDH (Spain) and I thought I'd bring it here too as it might be of interest to many here.
Simply put, the idea is to take a short, manageable piece of writing (article, project description, blog post, etc.), translate it into a language we or our collaborators know, and publish it in our DayofDH blogs using a common tag (TBD).
The objective is to increase the spread of our work in other linguistic and geographic areas. Therefore, even though many times it functions as a lingua franca, it doesn't have to be translations just into English. And I actually imagine that slightly more 'distant' ones (German-into-Spanish, Japanese-into-French, etc.) if we manage to do them, could lead to very interesting discoveries.
The impact of the exercise will depend largely on how many of us take part in it, so I'm hoping to interest as many of you as possible.
Later this week, I will be publishing a post on my DayofDH blog outlining/launching the idea as it originated in the context of RedHD. Before I do that, however, I'd love to hear what you think.
