Sarah,
I'm interested, especially in DH from the library perspective, although I'm not working on a particular project.  I know of several libraries building amazing digital collections (UNM for a start) of LAS-related materials.  I'm thinking something along the lines of of a survey or theory contribution.
Besides, it would be fun to work with you again!   I'm at sandra.cowan@uleth.ca

============================
Hi all,

I am interested in proposing a panel, roundtable, or worship for LASA 2014 on "Digital Humanities Initiatives in Latin American Studies."  To explain what I am thinking of doing, I'd like to reference some previous initiatives.

Last year's Modern Languages Association conference included a workshop titled "Get Started in Digital Humanities with Help from DH Commons" (Thursday, 3 January 2013, 8:30 am-12:30 pm):

http://dhcommons.org/mla2013

This inspired a panel presentation at Florida State University, in which scholars briefly offered their own definitions of digital humanities and described digital humanities projects that they had or were currently working on.

http://digitalscholars.wordpress.com/2012/12/06/on-getting-started/

I thought it would be great to do something similar at LASA - have a few people talk about their own work in Digital Humanities to open up a discussion about what is happening in this exciting and growing field in Latin American Studies.

I am currently working on funding applications to pursue the following Digital Humanities project and I would be willing to chair and present on the panel.  Please let me know asap if you are interested in collaborating with me.

My project involves the digital publication of oral histories of women revolutionary activists in Mexico between the 1920s and 1950s, in order to make these rich primary sources more widely accessible to students and scholars.  I propose to archive these through a web-based environment linked to Florida State University and institutions in Mexico (two possibilities for the latter are the Archivo General del Estado de Yucatán and the Instituto para el Desarrollo de la Cultura Maya).

The heart of this collection consists of 57 interviews that I conducted in 2000, with women who were members of revolutionary women's leagues in the state of Yucatán between the 1920s and 1950s. These interviews are unique and provide historical, anthropological, and sociological insight into socio-economic, political, religious, and agricultural events and processes between the late nineteenth and late twentieth centuries.  They will be useful to researchers in many disciplines and will constitute valuable additions to FSU's and other institution's collections.

The project requires:

+ editing 26 completed transcriptions and completing transcriptions of the remaining interviews

+ converting cassette recordings of the interviews to digital formats

+ making copies of audio recordings and transcripts and traveling to Yucatán in order to bring these to each community and relatives of each woman interviewed and to secure permission from living family members to archive the interviews

+ laying the foundations to apply for additional grants to build a digital platform for others to access this material
Please contact me if you are interested in participating!

http://dhcommons.org/mla2013

http://digitalscholars.wordpress.com/2012/12/06/on-getting-started/
