I was unaware that ADHO had demanded that GO::DH had to charge membership fees. My impression was that we could get the benefits of being a CO (including funding from ADHO), *without* having to pay membership fees. When was the demand that we pay fees made?

An executive composed of equal and guaranteed representation from geographical areas of the planet—probably based on the areas we used for around dh, though we can keep ourselves liquid through clever protocols. The only requisite of the executive would be that you take a task. We also use the NYC-DH model I developed with others, which depends on the notion of "minimal effort, maximum impact," which is a way of saying well distributed labor. These models only work where there is inspiration and will—that's when we find the time. Our future energy source can be our desire to make ourselves visible to each other in several directions at once, and the force that comes from well-designed projects and ideas."

And yes, I would like deliberations with ALL the members and this is the best place to have it, even this thread since we already started. We can start deliberating this model before the advocates of the other model have a chance to jump in with theirs, but we should keep in mind that their argument is also good, and deserves a good hearing.

My understanding is that under that model GO::DH would not be a membership organisation where members pay fees. Is my understanding correct?
If it were so this would match the 'minimal' model and perhaps help us focus on the tasks we want to focus on and avoid the pitfalls and grey areas that normally murk the work of learned societies and professional associations.

As promised, here is the document with the argument for why we should leave ADHO. The first round was written by Dr. Roopika Risam and me, but those in support can add their own rationales and arguments, or comment on ours. Instructions are in the Google Doc.
A second argument will be prepared by those who support the idea of becoming a Constituent Organization of ADHO. I think Dan O'Donnell (Canada), Barbara Bordalejo (Argentina) and Glen Worthey (USA) have signaled they would be interested in drafting such a document. Hopefully sooner, rather than later, so we can proceed with deliberations.
After the second argument is made, a third argument is possible if enough members feel there should be a middle path, or a "third way."
