Dear colleagues,
I write as outgoing president of the Australasian Association for Digital Humanities (aaDH), to welcome newly elected Executive Committee members including Sarah Kenderdine (President), Simon Musgrave (Secretary), Ingrid Mason (Communications Manager), and Cammi Webb-Gannon (Ordinary Member). Tully Barnett and Mike Jones have been co-opted to the committee as additional Ordinary Members. The full list of 12 current committee members is available at http://aa-dh.org/about/comm/.
aaDH now has close to 450 members. We have grown a long way from our beginnings in 2010-11, when around 40 representatives were brought together by the Australian Academy of the Humanities for a workshop that led to the establishment of aaDH. I am very proud of the achievements of our members and of the association in building the profile of digital humanities not only in our region but internationally. aaDH will soon be calling for proposals for its third biennial conference, to be held in Hobart in mid 2016. This year the DH2015 international conference took place in Sydney, the first time this major event has been hosted outside of Europe and North America in its 26-year history, a further sign of the new activity in our field.
I would especially like to thank those who are completing their terms on the aaDH Executive Committee, for your outstanding contribution to our association since its establishment. These include founding committee members Sydney Shep (Victoria University Wellington, NZ, 2011-15), Tim Sherratt (University of Canberra / National Library of Australia, 2011-15), and Deb Verhoeven (Deakin University, 2011-15), as well as interim Secretary Nick Thieberger (University of Melbourne, 2014-15). Founding members have steered aaDH over a 5-year establishment and growth period.
In other news, aaDH presented a major exhibition at the 2015 Council for Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) National Forum in Melbourne this month. Over 30 poster boards profiled the digital humanities research of aaDH members from across Australasia at this major event. The CHASS forum is a premier showcase of humanities activities nationally.
