Dear colleagues,
You are invited to apply to the National Invention to Innovation (i2I) Skills Training Program<https://inventiontoinnovation.ca/programs/>.
This academic program is an NSERC-funded initiative designed to assist Canadian researchers in bridging the gap between scientific discovery and commercialization.
The i2I Program is tailored for research scientists and engineers looking to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and navigate the complexities of bringing innovations to market. Based on decades of academic research and industry expertise, i2I Skills training is an asynchronous online cohort-based program (running from September 2025 to April 2026) that equips researchers to address the capacity, culture, and connectivity needs of the Canadian innovation ecosystem.
The program is competitive, but fees are covered for accepted graduate students, post-docs, and faculty.
The program considers three commercialization paths, including scientist-entrepreneurs, innovation champions, and translational scientists. It is a great place to start if you are looking to build an entrepreneurial capacity in your lab, explore early commercialization ideas, or help entrepreneurial students find new pathways. Participants join a vibrant network of academic experts, industry mentors, and translational colleagues across Canada, fostering collaboration and connectivity within the innovation ecosystem.
* Application link: https://beedie.sfu.ca/ee-applications/i2i/skills-training/
* Deadline: June 30, 2025
Contact Tony Briggs (i2I(a)sfu.ca<mailto:i2I@sfu.ca>) if you have any questions about the application process.
Also, let me know if this interests you and if you plan to apply.

In the second part of our RDM series, librarians will introduce researchers to safe and secure methods of data depositing. This session will cover a number of repository options and give a more in-depth introduction on how to use Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository. Researchers will learn what “open data” means in the Canadian funding context and how to apply those principles to their data management plans.

ORIS Seminar Reminder: TOMORROW, June 11, 2025
Title: Research Data Management: An Introduction to RDM
Overview: Join librarians as they introduce researchers to the information, tools, and resources that will prepare them for the emerging RDM landscape in Canada. The release of the Tri-Agency RDM Policy places new demands on researchers around the planning and use of research data. Many funding agencies now require a data management plan as part of their grant application. Researchers will learn what a data management plan is, the considerations when creating one, and how to incorporate research data management in their grant applications.
Time: 11:00-12:00
Location: Hybrid AH100 or Zoom.

Good afternoon everyone,
We wanted to share the materials from the workshop this morning. They are attached to this email, and can also be found on the webpages linked below. ORIS plans to host more information sessions and workshops in the coming months as the Tri-agency CV is required for more opportunities. During the Tri-agency CV implementation period, we will share any information and updates we learn.
As of right now, it appears likely that the narrative/Tri-agency CV will be required for the main grant opportunities in Fall 2027 at the earliest. Certain opportunities will require this format sooner, such as certain CIHR Catalysts or SSHRC Impact awards. Several opportunities have already required a TCV, and we are waiting to hear feedback and learn the results of those competitions.
If you were not able to attend the workshop in person this morning, the slides are posted online on the Ulethbridge TCV main page<https://uleth.sharepoint.com/sites/research-services/SitePages/Narrative-CV…>.
We also provided a brainstorming resource during the workshop that is available on the TCV resources webpage<https://uleth-my.sharepoint.com/personal/nicole_vanrootselaar_uleth_ca/Site…>.
Please reach out if you have any questions about the TCV, and enjoy the rest of your week.
Cheers,
Nicole van Rootselaar and Nancy Barajas Jaimes
