Participants may be qualified graduate and undergraduate students and/or their instructors. Reading knowledge of Italian and the desire to do some literary/historical research is required. Group work as well as individual work is welcomed. Participation in this endeavor, while rewarding in itself, also provides excellent training in the fields of medieval Italian studies, history, humanities computing and philology. TEI/XML manuscript markup initiatives?

Dear DM's I looking for a bit of an update on current initiatives for encoding medieval MSS with TEI or XML, and being out of the loop of such things recently, I have been having trouble figuring out what is, actually, still current and active. I've know of a few from past and recent work (TEI workgroup Medieval Manuscript Description, the MARC initiative, the MASTER program, and of course, EPT), but what ones (those and others) should be considered as still active and working -- leading the charge, if you will, towards the markup of medieval MSS? Switching XSL on the web (Lazy question)

Hi all, I have a question that I'm sure could be answered by some research, but I thought I'd ask here first in case somebody has some code, or so that I can get the low down right away. Is there a good way of building links in an xml document so that a browser pointed at the file can change XSL on the same file. I.e. If I have file.xsl and I have three different views of that data (default.xsl, view2.xsl, and view3.xsl) is there a good way of setting up file.xsl so that a browser pointed at it will be able to change among views? I want to do this with a TEI-encoded runic file that has filesheets for editorial or diplomatic presentation, and each of these in runic or roman letters. -d

Dear all, For almost a year, we have been suffering from a serious spam problem at our editorial email address digitalmedievalist(a)uleth.ca (250+ spam per day). We've not been able to filter the spam internally as well as we'd like due to some constraints that I won't bother you with, but show the weakness of bureaucracy. We seem, finally, to have solved the problem. Unfortunately, in this time we have undoubtedly missed some legitimate emails despite our best efforts. If you have emailed digitalmedievalist(a)uleth.ca and have not received a reply, it is almost certainly because you have been mistaken as spam. I do not think we have let a legitimate, recognised, email go unanswered for more than 48 hours. We are currently going through the trap to find missed messages. However, if you have emailed us and have not received a response, please let me ask you to try us again. In order to check that the spam filter really is working (we've had it up for four days), let me ask you to cc daniel.odonnell(a)uleth.ca directly on any messages you sent to digitalmedievalist(a)uleth.ca so I know they've been sent. These are updated versions of previous workshops run by the AHDS. Many projects applying for funding or commencing digitisation are unsure of how to manage or deal with the various elements involved in the creation of digital data. The AHDS Digitisation Workshops aim to cover each of the relevant themes, giving delegates a coherent idea of how they should be organising their projects.
