***Nominations will be accepted through Wednesday, March 14. Please send nominations to dot.porter(a)gmail.com. Self-nominations are welcome*** The Digital Medievalist is now taking nominations for members of the executive board. Per the Digital Medievalist Bylaws, Board members will be expected to serve the DM membership by serving on an editorial committee responsible for the production of the DM journal, overseeing the operation of the DM wiki, moderating the dm-l listserv, and/or organizing conference and poster sessions on behalf of Digital Medievalist. Board members serve two-year terms, with four spaces available each year. Eligibility to run for the board is determined by "demonstrable contribution to the project within the previous year," although there is no precise definition of a "demonstrable contribution." This might include editing the DM wiki, publishing an article or review in the DM Journal, or participating in a DM-sponsored session. Anyone who is subscribed to the Digital Medievalist listserv is eligible to vote. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please send a brief biographical statement (max 200 words) to Dot Porter at dot.porter(a)gmail.com. All sounds good! Infiltrating other wikipedia articles and having them link to ours seems a good plan - experience shows here Ed. on pix: Gabriel, I have your DC poster archived with all the others and could add that if you wish. James, do I remember you having a poster for DM on display at the PBW launch? If so that could be used as well. OK can we decide where to hang out. I've contacted Gabriel on the Wiki, but there are 3 pages it could be: Digital classics Digital Classicist Digital Medievalist (once created, of course) I suggest camping out at Digital classics as that is the parent article. You need to stake out a position by establishing a big parent article with lots of things linking **to** it. Talk pages don't count. The best way is to find related articles, add in a section or just a sentence that mentions digital techniques, then add a link to the parent article. The parent article should be Digital classics in my view, but you guys are the experts. Once you've got, say, 20 articles linking to it, then you have something no one will ever delete, because it is so embedded. Next step is to make brief mentions of the 'child' articles. Then create the child articles. These should not be too much like adverts. Make a good case for the child article adding research or subject interest. AND LOTS OF PICTURES!!!! Wikipedians love pictures, I can't believe you guys. This is a subject area that is crying out for some beautiful manuscript illustrations, carolingian whatsits, finials, you name it. I have stuff if you don't, but let's make a beautiful wonderful article. Wikipedia is all about plumage. So, let's go. EB

OK I've taken a look and the Digital Classicist, which *is* still there. Digital Medievalist was not there, but apparently it has been deleted, yes? Does anyone have copies of the Talk page? A couple of the editors who objected I know quite well, so I'll have chat with them. Meanwhile, the article does look a bit like an advert. Another objection was that it doesn't get many Google hits. Nothing wrong with that, but need to think of ways round. I'll ask the editors concerned if they can help. E

Was this sorted out? I do a lot of philosophy and especially Medieval philosophy stuff at Wikipedia. I'm a long-established editor and know the system pretty well. It has recently come to my attention that the page for "Digital Medievalist" in Wikipedia has been deleted by the administrators on the grounds that it "read like an advertisement". Apparently the entry needs to be sober and encyclopedic and cite third party references. Easy enough to do, but apparently no one did. (I'm just fresh from the battle to prevent the same happening to the Digital Classicist entry, but does anyone want to come along and help reinstate the DM page?)
