Hi all, As several people have pointed out, I forgot the information on the actual programme when I distributed the call for applications. Here's my original email with the information below on applying: This programme is certainly of interest to members of this list and people they know. There are some great paid internships available, including two in my labs at the U of L. The programme is aimed at international students (from high, mid, and low income economies) who wish to intern with Canadian academics. Our positions involve XML work on journals or 3D and Linked Open Data work on the Visionary Cross project. We welcome excellent students in either of these. But there are lots of other positions available! Students interested in a 2016 Globalink Research Internship have until *September 24, 2015, at 4 p.m. PDT *to apply. The Globalink Research Internship is a 12-week research project for high-achieving senior undergraduates from international universities from Australia, Brazil, China, France, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Vietnam. Starting May 2016, approved students travel to Canada, where they work with a faculty supervisor and other researchers at their host universities. CALL FOR PAPERS ALBERTA CONFERENCE ON LINGUISTICS (ACOL) Saturday October 31, 2015 11:00-18:00 University of Lethbridge Anderson Hall 116-117 Please send your abstract by Monday, September 28th, 2015 to Madoka Mizumoto at madoka.mizumoto(a)uleth.ca. Abstracts should be approximately 150 words exclusive of references and should be anonymous. Send your abstract as a Word or Pdf file attachment and put your full name, rank, and contact information in the body of your email. We welcome proposals for papers in any area of linguistics. Students are especially encouraged to submit. Talk length (15 or 20 minutes + 5 minutes for questions) will be determined once we know the number of papers. As always, there is no registration fee for this event. Morning coffee and a light lunch are included. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. We are planning an informal social event after the talks on Saturday night. Dates: September 28: abstract submission deadline. October 9: notifications of acceptance sent out. October 16: program sent out. October 31: ACOL.

CFP Reminder: Technical Communication in the Middle Ages (Kalamazoo 2016)

CFP, ICMS ("Kalamazoo") 2016: Technical Communications in the Middle Ages Scholars have long recognized Chaucer’s “Treatise on the Astrolabe” as an early technical document, yet few similar medieval texts have been discussed as specimens of technical communication. This session seeks to consider the traditions and conventions of medieval technical communication, as well as the connections between medieval and contemporary technical writing. Possible texts for consideration might include (but are not limited to) penitential and conduct manuals, monastic rules, business correspondence, medical treatises, scientific and pseudo-scientific manuals (including alchemical and astrological ones), cookery books, law codes, and government and military documents. Papers should consider the texts as technical communication, but may focus either on any aspect, including writing, layout, design, etc. Please send abstracts and participant information forms via e-mail to Wendy Hennequin (mwhennequin(a)gmail.com) by September 15.
