Good morning everyone, I am sharing the following award opportunity on behalf of One Child Every Child. The Indigenous Research Seed Funding Award<https://em.ucalgary.ca/MTYxLU9MTi05OTAAAAGaHBnXmLe2-XSDXmDKXQ_MDXtVgYRgG3nX…> was just launched. These awards are for scholars that are exploring new child health and wellness research with a focus on Indigenous peoples, organizations and/or communities. Applications are open for the May 16, 2025 intake. There will possibly be multiple intakes. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible, you must be an academic staff member, postdoctoral scholar, or doctoral student at the University of Calgary or one of the OCEC institutional partners (University of Alberta, University of Lethbridge or Athabasca University). Awards Details: Ten awards of $10,000 each Award funds may be used for, but not limited to: * initial community engagement * hiring research staff * support for literature review * grant writing * ceremonial protocol support * honoraria * visuals * early knowledge engagement/presentations with Indigenous community(ies) * travel to develop partnerships Full eligibility criteria are available on the awards webpage.<https://em.ucalgary.ca/MTYxLU9MTi05OTAAAAGaHBnXmLe2-XSDXmDKXQ_MDXtVgYRgG3nX…> The application is fairly straightforward- answer 5 questions to help describe the project (~150 words for each answer), or a short video to support oral knowledge sharing. Upcoming ORIS Webinar (Wednesday, May 21) Please be reminded to attend this information session on 'The use of Generative AI in the development and review of research grant proposals.' You should already have it in your calendar. Overview: The use of Generative AI in academic research is hotly debated because it offers many benefits, alongside unique challenges, and risks. Generative AI can help generate novel research ideas based on existing literature. For example, it can scan many scientific papers and propose potential research gaps or areas that have not been previously explored. It can also be used to draft and structure research proposals by providing literature reviews, defining research questions, suggesting methodologies, and predicting possible outcomes. Research proposals for grant applications require clear, precise, and persuasive language, and AI models can refine text to these ends to increase the chances of funding. Given these powerful capabilities, researchers and funders should consider the risks associated with using this technology, including the ethics of reliance on these tools, concerns about intellectual ownership and confidentiality, and the quality and quantity of generated research proposals. Knowledge Mobilization Workshop (2025 Updates) This workshop is for all faculty members (particularly ECRs), postdocs, and graduate students interested in learning about how to integrate Knowledge Mobilization into their grants and its significance in the research process. The workshop will communicate changes and updates since the previous workshop held at the University in Spring 2024.
