Expression of Interest: SAMP Research Mentorship Opportunities

Dear Colleagues, As you may have heard, the Southern Alberta Medical Program (SAMP) is set to launch at the University of Lethbridge in July, expanding opportunities for medical education and training in our region. As part of the SAMP curriculum, learners (SAMP students) participate in a "Professional Roles" component that provides structured exposure to research, community, and scholarly activity. Through this initiative, learners may be matched with faculty researchers to take part in defined, time-limited research-related activities aligned with shared interests. This component aims to introduce learners to the research environment while strengthening connections between clinical practice and research. It also offers an opportunity for University of Lethbridge researchers to engage with motivated trainees and provide meaningful, mentored research experiences. We are sharing this opportunity in advance of a formal call for participation. At this stage, involvement is exploratory only and does not represent a commitment. Rather, it is intended to help gauge interest and assess feasibility within anticipated timelines. Behind every success story, published paper, and funded grant are failed attempts, setbacks, detours, and letdowns. A Compelling Narrative CV: Hybrid Information Session

Overview: In October 2024, the Tri-agencies released a statement that narrative CVs, also called the "Tri-agency CV" would be phased in until all applications rely on this new format. Since this announcement, select competitions (SSHRC Impact Award, CIHR Catalysts, NSERC Discovery Horizons) have tested the narrative CV format, and continue to do so for certain opportunities. A full-rollout date is not confirmed, but the Tri-agencies hinted Fall 2027 or later as a possible implementation deadline. Join ORIS for an introduction on Jan.28th to the narrative CV format and review ideas on how to craft your own research narrative. Sessions will be offered the following weeks at the same time to provide an opportunity to collaboratively develop your narrative CV template. Conducting Human Health/Clinical Research at the U of L - Brief Survey

Good Afternoon Everyone, As I return from maternity leave and begin meeting with faculty again, I am noticing that we might still have some barriers to human health/clinical trials here on campus (I also experienced some of these barriers during my PDF – i.e., sites, AHS operational approval, clinician participation). As a result, I am gathering information to better understand the barriers faculty face when conducting, or attempting to conduct, human health and clinical research (particularly clinical trials) at the University of Lethbridge. Your insights will help identify gaps in support, infrastructure, and processes, and will help me assist further, and hopefully strengthen our capacity in this area. Good afternoon everyone, The end of January is almost here, which means the deadline is approaching for the undergraduate summer awards (NSERC USRA, Chinook Summer Research Award, Alberta Innovates SRS). You are welcome to forward this email and information to any undergraduates you would like to support for one or more of the following awards. Below is a quick overview of each award. Students can apply for multiple awards if they meet the eligibility criteria. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help. NSERC USRA is due Monday, Feb. 2 at 4:00 PM. Three notable new changes for 2026: * There are two additional awards offered under the Chinook Summer Research Awards. These are called the "Life and Climate Research Award." Projects in the social sciences, humanities, arts and sciences that are related to the climate and environment may qualify.
