SPOTLIGHT on NEW PROJECTS
High Throughput Humanities e-Research (HiTHeR) and FReSH (Forging
Restful Services for e-Humanities)
HiTHeR created a prototype system for analysing the Nineteenth Century
Serials Edition (NCSE) corpus that contains approximately 430,000
articles digitised from several 19th Century periodicals. The follow-on
project, FReSH expands upon this work by incorporating tools that
support deep analysis of the textual content.

Mapping Medieval Chester
The project asks questions about how medieval inhabitants imagined and
represented the urban space around them. A key aspect of the project is

urban landscapes were navigated by inhabitants.

Dear list,
Last week, I presented to you a website
(http://paleographie.castellanie.net) with some palaeography exercises
created with a customized version of Image Markup Tool.
I have now made the sources for this customization available, and they
can be freely downloaded from the Image Markup Tool website, under
"Paleography":

Dear list,
I'm pleased to announce that Castellanie.net, a website publishing
images and soon transcriptions of the XIIIth century account rolls of
the House of Savoy, now proposes self-corrective online paleography
exercices to help students and beginners to learn how to read those
accounts. Four exercices are available now, with more to come. They can
be accessed from the main website (www.castellanie.net) or directly at
this URL:
http://paleographie.castellanie.net
What may also be of interest to some of you is that those exercices are
generated directly from Image Markup Tool, thanks to a customized XSL,
CSS and Javascript, making it very easy to create new exercices,
including for scholars with zero web design skills.
I plan to make the XSL / CSS / Javascript available online very soon,
after just a little bit of polishing.
Besides, as we plan to extend the collection of exercices, any feedback
about the interface, functionalities, etc. will be most welcome :)
Best regards, an Happy New Year!
Marjorie

Hello all,
With the return to work of the technicians, digitalmedievalist.org is
now up and running again. I apologise for the problems with the server
over the break and am investigating what can be done to ensure this does
not happen again.
