NEW: Research Management System launch

Dear researchers, We are excited to announce that our new Research Management System is in its final development phase, and we are planning to go live on Wednesday, December 3! Changes to Bridge access and approvals begin next week, so please take note of ALL the information contained below. What will you use the new RMS for? * Submit your Research Proposal Form for external grants. * Apply for all internal grants (ULRF, ULTF, Open Access, PDF Dissemination, PDF Recruitment, Indigenous Engagement Fund, etc.). * View a list of your active research funds, FOAP numbers, and start/end dates. * Review documents for your active funds and proposals (proposals, award letters, contracts/agreements). * Receive a reminder to submit an extension request for an expiring fund. * Submit extension requests for internal grants. * Submit progress reports for completed internal grants. Please note that detailed financial accounting will remain available on the FAST system. We will also be incorporating animal ethics applications and certifications into the RMS in 2026. Development begins in January. When are the Online Information Sessions? To support you during this transition, ORIS will host several information sessions to introduce the system and answer questions. Where Else is Support Available? We appreciate that this is a busy time of the semester, so if you are not able to attend these sessions, or if you plan to wait until your next grant application is due to tackle the new system, you can access the online materials or contact Nicole (oris.internal(a)uleth.ca<mailto:oris.internal@uleth.ca>) as needed for support. When do the steps for the transition occur? * Nov 19 is the final date to submit a Research Proposal Form on the Bridge. * RPFs not fully approved by Nov 21 at 4pm must be resubmitted to the new RMS. * Between Nov 22-Dec 2, all RPFs and fund set ups will be paused. During this period, the data for open/active awards is transitioned from the Bridge/financial systems into the new RMS. You will still be able to view data on the Bridge during this period. * On Dec 3, the new RMS will be activated. * On Dec 22, access to the Researchers tab on the Bridge will be closed. After this date, the Research Facilitators may be able to look up closed/unfunded award information that is not transitioned to the new RMS. What will happen to my old/current records on the Bridge? * Active proposals on the Bridge are transferred over and will be available in the new system. * Closed records will not be transferred. You can review these until Dec 22, when the Researchers tab will be deactivated. * ORIS will save the historical data so you can review information, but not files, if needed. There are a lot of changes coming and we know there will be challenges along the way. We appreciate your support, feedback, and patience as we implement our new RMS. Research Facilitator, Health and Medical Sciences - Keiko McFarland

Dear Colleagues, The Office of Research and Innovation Services is delighted to welcome Keiko McFarland, Research Facilitator for Health and Medical Sciences, back from her maternity leave. Keiko has been an invaluable member of Uleth's grants team, providing expert advice on grants from health and medical sciences research funding agencies, including CIHR. Her extensive knowledge in funding agencies, proposal development, and grant administration has greatly benefited many of you. Keiko holds a PhD in Neuroscience and brings years of research experience, including international collaborations and projects. We are thrilled to have her back and look forward to her continued contributions. This week, Keiko is gradually resuming her role and will be fully back on November 17th. Mitacs GRA Workshop

On November 19 at 1:00 pm, ORIS will host a workshop on the Mitacs Globalink Research Award<https://www.mitacs.ca/our-programs/globalink-research-award/> (GRA) program. The GRA program supports research collaborations between Canada and eligible countries and regions through intern(s) international mobility. Under the joint supervision of a home and host professor, successful senior undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows can do one or two 12-24 weeks internship(s). In this workshop, Alex Engel, Mitacs Business Development Advisor at the University of Lethbridge, will introduce the Globalink Research Award program. Alex will provide an overview of the program’s purpose and benefits, explain who is eligible to apply, and walk attendees through the application process. This is a great opportunity for faculty members and graduate students to learn how the GRA program can support collaborative research initiatives and access funding through Mitacs. Please feel free to invite any senior undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral student who may be interested. Research Security Training Modules

Hello Colleagues, The University of Lethbridge is deeply committed to cultivating international collaborations and attracting exceptional scholars, reinforcing our position as a hub for research excellence amid a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape and an era of accelerated technological innovation. In this dynamic environment, all participants in the research ecosystem must understand the importance of research security and their role in maintaining it. A modern research mindset demands adaptability and equips all actors with the tools and resources to protect and preserve the Canadian research ecosystem actively. In ensuring this, ORIS has made the Government of Canada Research Security Training Modules accessible via your SSO login, eliminating the need to use GC Keys on the government site. Completing these trainings is crucial for implementing best practices in safeguarding research and meeting funder and government requirements to protect research and intellectual property from national security risks.
