Citizen Scientists and Professional Researcher Cooperations We invite you to submit an abstract to our Global Environmental Change Session: GC018: Co-Producing Science, Co-Creating Solutions: Enlisting Citizen Scientists alongside Professional Researchers to Expand the Reach and Power of GEC Data https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/preliminaryview.cgi/Session9164.html Session Description: Researcher and citizen alliances are fundamental to addressing impacts, mitigation, adaptation and communication about Global Environmental Change. Understanding local and regional changes often requires more data than research programs can afford. The Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count has a track record of more than 100 years; the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network provides data to the National Weather Service; other recent, cutting-edge projects from Trout Unlimited and the Public Lab use open source software and commercial off-the-shelf tools to help close research data gaps. These projects engage the general public and create informed and empowered citizen solution teams that pilot solutions to regional and global environment problems. Join us to share your citizen engagement project and to learn more about such forms of engagement. Climate Change Solutions at AGU Fall Meeting We invite you to submit an abstract to our Global Environmental Change Session: GC010: Climate change solutions Session Description: The climate science community must devote much greater attention to solutions to climate change. This session seeks abstracts from researchers, planners and managers who are evaluating local, regional, national and global solutions strategies, programs, plans and technology. The science is well defined. We know what climate change is doing to the world. We must come together to better address a range of solutions to the climate change dilemma. Researchers, communicators, educators, We invite you to submit an abstract to our Global Environmental Change Session: GC052: One Night Stands vs Long Term Relationships: GEC Researchers and Multimedia Communicators https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/preliminaryview.cgi/Session9150.html Session Description: Researchers need long-term connections with communicators and outreach personnel with skills in media, video production and social media. Research outcomes can and must be better shared with society. Such developments can effectively spread research results while countering organized campaigns aimed at discrediting and/or instilling doubt about legitimate research. Hybrid science communication projects work! The Dark Snow Project, for example, a crowd funded science initiative focused on the Greenland ice sheet, included strong communication components from the start. That has resulted in significant mass media exposure for the goals and findings of the science team. This session seeks abstract submissions from researchers who have developed hybrid research communication programs and projects, and from agencies, groups and individuals who are seeking to create such alliances, or who will provide practical and positive examples of successful strategies.
