Dear Colleagues
Despite the troubled and politically unstable times, the digital medievalist board is discussing specific changes to its organization, and we need your feedback on this matter.
This mail is to inform you that the board is debating changes to the bylaws of our organization. As a subscriber to the dm-list, you are a member of digital medievalist, and we want to hear from you.
The motivation behind the changes to the bylaws are the following:
* We want to stress that digital medievalist is an inclusive and open learned society that holds itself to certain standards and academic rigor.
* For reasons of administration and organization, we propose to alter the terms of the executive board. From our point of view, it is too time-consuming to organize elections every year.
* The excellent subcommittee (formally called postgraduate committee) needs a written foundation; we, therefore, want to add specific bylaws for the committee.
As is laid out in our bylaws, we are obliged to give you a chance to comment on the proposed amendments (and frankly, we are very eager to get your feedback). Feel free to comment directly to the list or send one of the board members a message (https://digitalmedievalist.wordpress.com/about/executive-board/).
After this call for comments (open for ten days), the executive board will consider the feedback and propose new bylaws. All members of digital medievalist will have a chance to vote on the new bylaws by the end of March/beginning of April (announced through the mailing list).
For your consideration, I attach two PDF documents with
a) a proposition for amendments to the digital medievalist bylaws [https://annuel2.framapad.org/p/digital-medievalist-by-laws-9suk]
b) a proposition for new bylaws for the subcommittee [https://annuel2.framapad.org/p/bylaws-for-post-graduate-committee-9suk]
Both propositions are also open for comments online (link to a framapad/open document)
I am very much looking forward to your feedback and send best wishes in the name of the executive board,
Tobias

Dear all,
There are only one week left to respond to the call for proposals, and we look forward to receiving your proposals:
Our call for papers for the conference "Ancient documents and automatic recognition of handwriting" to be held on 23 and 24 June 2022 at the École nationale des chartes in Paris is still open.
This conference will address the theme of HTR while linking it to scientific issues of corpus constitution and/or exploitation.
We wish to question the practical aspects of the use of this technology (development of HTR engine, transcription interface, user interface to use and train models, etc.), while raising its methodological issues and its impact on research data.
You can send us your proposals until 28 February via the dedicated platform. Proposals should be between 750 and 1000 words (excluding bibliography and illustrations). They can be made in French or in English.
You will find the full call for proposals at the following address: https://dahtr.sciencesconf.org.
For all enquiries, please contact us at the following address: dahtr(a)sciencesconf.org
Please feel free to share this information,
Yours sincerely,
Ariane Pinche for the organising committee

Dear list members,
We apologize for those of you who have already answered, but we would like to send this reminder to please participate in our survey.
As part of the Mellon-funded initiative “Communicating the TEI to a multilingual community,” we are researching the contexts and uses of the Text Encoding Initiative among the global Spanish-speaking community. If you have used the TEI for your research or taken any TEI course at any level, and you are either part of the Global Spanish-speaking community or work with Spanish texts encoded in TEI, you are kindly invited to answer these questions.
We are interested in surveying the different scenarios where TEI is used, the geographical diversity, and needs for training and learning resources. We are launching this survey in the hopes of covering all those Spanish-speaking areas, but also all those projects and users from other regions working with Spanish primary sources (e.g. projects in the US, using primary sources in Spanish, etc.).
The survey consists of 22 questions and should not take more than 10 minutes to complete. The survey is anonymous, although we ask about your affiliation and nationality in order to obtain a better understanding from a geographical point of view (we do not ask for demographic information such as age, gender, ethnicity or religion).
The survey’s data will be used for a Report on the uses of the TEI and the needs of the Spanish community.
The survey can be answered either in Spanish or English and will remain open until February 28, 2022. Please share it with colleagues and friends who might be able to contribute!
Follow this link to the Survey: https://bit.ly/encuestaTEI or copy and paste the URL into your internet browser: https://umiami.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aWx84qH6cih9Xf0
