Brain Canada is delighted to continue its collaboration with the Barbara Turnbull Foundation for Spinal Cord Research in our shared mission to advance research efforts that seek to enhance the quality of life for individuals affected by spinal cord and brain injuries.
The Turnbull-Tator Award aims to recognize an outstanding publication by a researcher at a Canadian institution in the field of spinal cord and/or brain injury research, including concussion, in the last two years (October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2025) with a $50,000 CAD prize. Brain Canada, through the Canada Brain Research Fund, and the Barbara Turnbull Foundation for Spinal Cord Research will each contribute $25,000.
Recognizing the important need to build capacity in these fields, the funds awarded through the 2025 Turnbull-Tator Award must be utilized to support the salary / stipend of full-time graduate student(s) (M.Sc., Ph.D.) or postdoctoral fellow(s) conducting research in the recipient’s laboratory and contributing to the continuation of the excellent research exemplified by the awarded publication.
* Nominees can be any author on an article published, or accepted for publication, between October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2025 and affiliated with a Canadian institution at the time of publication. * Publication must be an original research article in an international peer-reviewed journal. * Research topic and findings must be clearly relevant to spinal cord and/or brain injury, including concussion. * Nominees must be considered an independent researcher at their institution. * Nominees must still be actively conducting research in the field of spinal cord and/or brain injury at a Canadian institution for the duration of the award. A summary of the proposed research project and trainee(s) involvement in the project is required as part of the application. * Self-nominations (limited to one per person) and nominations by a colleague, mentor, or previous supervisor will be accepted. Please note that a publication ca n only be submitted once per award cycle.

Prix Turnbull-Tator pour la recherche sur les lésions médullaires et commotions cérébrales
La Fondation Brain Canada est ravie de poursuivre sa collaboration avec la Fondation Barbara Turnbull pour la recherche sur la moelle épinière dans le cadre de notre mission commune, qui consiste à faire progresser les efforts de recherche visant à améliorer la qualité de vie des personnes touchées par les lésions médullaires et cérébrales.
Le prix Turnbull-Tator récompensera un chercheur d’un établissement canadien pour leur projet de recherche proposé et une publication d’exception dans le domaine des lésions médullaires et/ou cérébrales, y compris les commotions cérébrales, au cours des deux dernières années (entre le 1er octobre 2023 et le 30 septembre 2025) avec un prix de 50 000 $.
Pour renforcer les capacités dans ces domaines, les fonds accordés dans le cadre du prix Turnbull-Tator 2025 serviront à couvrir la rémunération ou l’allocation d’un ou plusieurs étudiants de cycle supérieur (maîtrise ou doctorat) ou postdoctorants à temps plein menant des recherches dans le laboratoire du lauréat qui contribuera au projet de recherche et à l’avancement de la recherche d’exception illustrée dans la publication faisant l’objet de ce prix.
