Sent on behalf of almost 400 signatories as of October 1, 2015 An open letter addressed to world leaders ahead of the Paris climate conference in December. The letter is framed in moral language and calls for world leaders to make serious commitments to avoiding climate catastrophe, and for citizens to hold them responsible. The letter is being hosted at the Global Climate Change Week website. Our goal is to collect a significant number of signatures from academics around the world and to place the letter, with several translations, in The Guardian (or a similarly high profile outlet). Ideally, we hope to get as many notable academics as we can to sign the letter early. Dear Friends and Colleagues, Dont you think it would be useful to give everyone an access to climate sciences which is reliable, free, understandable, and in direct connection with working climate scientists? We do! To pursue this goal, we founded Climanosco, a strictly independent, non-profit association. Today, we already have 65 members all around the world. We also have 16 climate scientists from leading research institutions in climate sciences around the world who committed to submit an article by the 15 October 2015. This is an excellent start, but its just the start! We are on Crowdfunding on Indiegogo until 15 October! Understanding local and regional changes often requires more data than research programs can afford. The Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count has a track record of more than 100 years; the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network provides data to the National Weather Service; other recent, cutting-edge projects from Trout Unlimited and the Public Lab use open source software and commercial off-the-shelf tools to help close research data gaps. Researchers, communicators, educators, We invite you to submit an abstract to our Global Environmental Change Session: GC052: One Night Stands vs Long Term Relationships: GEC Researchers and Multimedia Communicators https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/preliminaryview.cgi/Session9150.html Session Description: Researchers need long-term connections with communicators and outreach personnel with skills in media, video production and social media. Research outcomes can and must be better shared with society. Such developments can effectively spread research results while countering organized campaigns aimed at discrediting and/or instilling doubt about legitimate research. Hybrid science communication projects work! The Dark Snow Project, for example, a crowd funded science initiative focused on the Greenland ice sheet, included strong communication components from the start. That has resulted in significant mass media exposure for the goals and findings of the science team. This session seeks abstract submissions from researchers who have developed hybrid research communication programs and projects, and from agencies, groups and individuals who are seeking to create such alliances, or who will provide practical and positive examples of successful strategies.
