I am writing because I think many of you may be involved in teaching college courses about climate change, climate change adaptation, and/or climate change mitigation. We at Oxford University Press are currently working on a multi-media project led by Jim Byrne and Leanne Little of the University of Lethbridge about climate change adaptation and mitigation, intended for use in upper level undergraduate and early graduate courses. Please consider submitting your astracts on preparing for climate change to the session on resilience, vulnerability and adaptation.
We are committed to substantial climate change due to greenhouse gases already emitted from burning fossil fuels. The best-case greenhouse gas emission mitigation programs will likely see humanity dealing with 2°C of warming within 1 to 2 generations. The research community must lead an international, multidisciplinary research application program evaluating resilience, vulnerability and adaptive capacity on a regional basis, and develop strategies for communities to survive, and maintain a reasonable lifestyle under serious, if not catastrophic, climate change impacts.

Climate researchers from many disciplines have developed climate change curriculum materials. Despite these admirable efforts, there is a substantial lack of knowledge about the many complexities of climate change in the population. The complexity of the multidisciplinary research and education challenges suggest few in the research community and very few in society can adequately address climate change across the full range of disciplines. Multidisciplinary cooperation and understanding is desperately needed. This session will address all aspects of climate change research across disciplines and across society. Our intent is to lead development of a web based, multidisciplinary curriculum for graduate and senior university students that will be widely available, in constant evolution and is cost-effective for instructors and students.

Session Description:
It is now widely accepted that changes in climate have and will continue to
impact natural and human systems around the world. Public engagement with
climate change is an essential part of mitigating and adapting to the
impacts. A rapidly growing body of social science addresses this subject
through research on beliefs and attitudes, understanding and engagement,
and behavioral responses to climate change. This rich body of research,
however, is infrequently applied to the actual practice of climate change
communication. Given what is now known, relying solely on intuition to
communicate about climate change is imprudent and in the worst-case
scenario, can degrade public engagement. In an effort to build momentum
towards a more scientific approach to communication about climate change,
this session seeks presentations from organizations, individuals, or teams
that are conducting and applying science communication research in the
development, application, and evaluation of their climate change
communication efforts.

you’re likely to hear a wide range of answers—journalism, teaching, social
or biophysical research, and more. With few direct paths into the
profession, science communication professionals take equally diverse
approaches in doing their job. Whether it’s their varied backgrounds, a
shortage of professional norms, or a lack of familiarity with communication
research, few practitioners utilize or engage in science communication
research. Researchers and practitioners alike recognize this problematic
disconnect. To move both research and the profession forward, practitioners
must help identifying relevant questions for research and researchers must
discuss the practical implications of their research findings. This session
aims to identify successful models for the integration of science
communication research and practice. We seek presentations from
organizations, individuals, or teams that are conducting and applying
science communication research in the development, application, and
evaluation of their communication and outreach efforts.

A number of people responded to my email below with condolences. Thank you so much for the caring, but I must clarify. My wife has been ill but she is not in a life threatening situation.
Sadly though, Natasha Andronova, our colleague and co-convener for the AGU Chapman Climate Meeting, passed away on June 1 due to her illness. She was an amazing lady.

The next step is to integrate the Chapman posters. If you would like to have your poster online and involved in the Facebook discussions, please send me an email asap and we will work the posters into the webpage and the Facebook.
This took a fair amount of investigation to work out a means of facilitating discussion but I hope this might be an evolving model for disseminating conference materials effectively in future. The discussion is open to anyone who chooses to join in either in FB or through the website. The administrator of the Facebook page can delete comments and ban trolls that are not contributing meaningfully to the discussion.
We have collaborated on two education videos series that are featured on the http://climatesolutionscenter.com<http://climatesolutionscenter.com/> website: one series with Geoff Haines-Stiles; and another series with Yale Climate Forum and Peter Sinclair. We are working on education lesson plans for each video and plan to have the lesson plans published before on the website before fall.
