Good afternoon, We recognize that the ongoing teacher strike presents challenges for researchers with school-age children. The University of Lethbridge remains committed to supporting our research community during this time. Accordingly, the deadline for the University of Lethbridge Research Fund<https://www.ulethbridge.ca/research/grants/university-lethbridge-research-f…> (ULRF) has been extended to November 17, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. MDT. The ULRF is an internal funding opportunity administered by the Office of Research & Innovation Services. It is designed to support research activities across all disciplines, with the goal of seeding new projects and leveraging funding to launch broader research programs. Please note that the ULRF is not intended to provide ongoing support through repeated applications or to supplement existing research programs. Greetings, I am excited to invite you to participate in the launch of University of Lethbridge’s new Research and Creative Activities Plan on Monday, November 17 from 2:30-4:00pm. This event will showcase research and creative activities work, accomplishments, and impacts at the University of Lethbridge. This will be an excellent opportunity to: · Share your research with a diverse and engaged audience · Connect with fellow researchers across disciplines · Meet and share your work with senior administrators We are inviting presenters from the following groups: 1. All faculty and Postdoctoral Fellows: If you have collaborative research projects, or engage in knowledge translation and outreach activities, I would like to invite you to participate in the “Rapid Research Rounds,” a chance to share your research and how you translate research strategy into impact through collaboration. If you are interested in presenting, please reply by the end of the day on Monday, October 27th. Each presentation will be 4 minutes, and I hope to include 8 presenters to represent the range of research at ULethbridge. 1. Postdoctoral Fellows, Graduate, and Undergraduate Students: If you know a trainee who can showcase a research poster from a conference, class, or symposium, please extend an invitation to them. MSI Funding Opportunity

Hello everyone, The MSI Foundation is a research granting charitable organization which has supported more than 300 investigators over the past 54 years, many of whom have made significant contributions to health research in the province of Alberta. For the year 2025, the Board of Trustees will continue to support novice or emerging investigators in the field of health services and population health research (similar to CIHR pillar 3 or 4). Projects also require a co-applicant who is a user of research. The Foundation is committing $300,000.00 to $350,000.00 per year to this initiative. The value of an award is up to $50,000.00 per year for a maximum of two years. Since 2010 the MSI Foundation has awarded grants to 75 new investigators, often as their first substantial peer- reviewed grant. On average they receive 30 Letters of Intent per year, select 15 for full applications and fund 2-4 projects. A range of health disciplines and wide variety of projects have been supported as indicated on our website. To apply, please submit a Letters of Intent, due Friday, Oct.31, describing the research project. From these letters, a number of investigators will be invited to develop full applications. The primary objective of this workshop is to explain the potential for misuse of dual-use research, technology, and materials, along with possible risk indicators and mitigation tools to protect Canadian research assets. An additional scenario-based session further provides an opportunity for participants to apply the information shared in the presentation and to discuss strategies to work through research security problems. There are no right or wrong answers, and the session is conducted in an open and frank environment. The role of the presenter is strictly to facilitate a discussion amongst the participants, and if needed, offer guidance to help steer the discussion. Welcome to Our New Mitacs Business Development Advisor

Hello Colleagues, It is my pleasure to introduce you to Alex Engel, our new Mitacs Business Development Advisor, who will be taking over the role previously held by Hannah Scott. Although Alex will be based at ULethbridge, he will also support other participating institutions in Southern Alberta, including Lethbridge Polytechnic, Red Crow Community College, and Medicine Hat College. Alex recently completed a Master of Arts in Kinesiology at the University of Lethbridge, where his research explored the perceptions of gym users and their engagement with fitness spaces. Alex's work experience includes teaching and research at the university level, coordinating projects, hosting a podcast with the Lethbridge Sport Council, mentoring athletes, and working in various labour roles, including a stint at Desert Blume Golf Course. Throughout his academic, sporting, and professional experiences, he has developed a passion for leadership, mentorship, and helping others grow. He enjoys golfing, snowboarding, camping, and spending time with his family in his free time.
