Safeguarding Science - Understanding and Navigating Security Risks in the Research Overview: * The purpose of the Safeguarding Science workshop is to raise awareness within Canada's scientific and academic communities about research-security related issues. The primary objective of this workshop is to explain the potential for misuse of dual-use research, technology, and materials, along with possible risk indicators and mitigation tools to protect Canadian research assets. * An additional scenario-based session further provides an opportunity for participants to apply the information shared in the presentation and to discuss strategies to work through research security problems. There are no right or wrong answers, and the session is conducted in an open and frank environment. The role of the presenter is strictly to facilitate a discussion amongst the participants, and if needed, offer guidance to help steer the discussion Presenter: Erin Dorgan is the regional advisor for the prairies in the Government of Canada's recently established Research Security Centre. In this role, she helps ensure universities and researchers have access to research security awareness, guidance, and resources. Audience: The workshop is intended for researchers, research staff (including technicians, postdoctoral fellows, and students), research security professionals, research administrators, information technology and information management staff, security personnel, biosafety and radiological safety officers, human resources personnel, supply chain personnel, and senior management. Research Management Platform coming!

Hello ULethbridge Research Community, As announced in June, ULethbridge is working with InfoEd Global to customize its electronic Research Management System (RMS). We are excited to share that Phase I is almost complete! Now, ORIS requests your help to test the new research system. This is an opportunity to see the current site, and provide feedback during development. Please reply to this email by Thursday, September 18 at 4 pm to indicate your interest in volunteering as a tester. We will schedule a meeting between Monday, Sept. 22nd- Thursday, Sept. 25th to demonstrate how the website works, and provide time for you to try it out during this session. We require at least 8 more volunteers, but if there is greater interest, we may organize several sessions to accommodate different schedules. Your feedback and support in shaping this process is invaluable. The exact dates for system implementation are still not known, but as we complete the testing phase, we will provide multiple demonstrations and user training sessions to help our community transition smoothly from the previous system. Board of Governors Research Chair applications This program is open to all research-active faculty members whose contributions and research program plans meet the criteria for CRC Tier I eligibility, meaning those who are established in their research and academic careers who can demonstrate impact of their work, contributions and commitments to EDI and Indigenization, and mentorship of students and staff through their research. Dear Colleagues, The University of Lethbridge Multidisciplinary Review Committee is seeking new members to adjudicate the upcoming University of Lethbridge Research Fund (ULRF) and Chinook Summer Research Award competitions. This is a two-year appointment. Committee members will receive a letter of service for their records/performance reviews. About the Awards * University of Lethbridge Research Fund (ULRF): This faculty-level award supports the development of new research projects and programs. The application deadline is November 1, and reviewers are expected to submit scoresheets by February 1. To manage workload, applications are divided among sub-committees. Each reviewer will assess approximately 8–12 proposals. * Chinook Summer Research Awards: These awards support undergraduate research training across all disciplines. Committee members will receive their assigned proposals by February 25 and must return scoresheets by March 27. Each reviewer will assess approximately 15–17 proposals. Eligibility Committee members must be faculty at the University of Lethbridge with an active research program. While serving on the committee, members may not apply for a ULRF grant or be listed as a co-applicant. Members may supervise Chinook students but must not review their proposals. All reviewers are required to declare any real or perceived conflicts of interest. Overview * The Mitacs – Horizon Europe IMA is designed to support Canadian faculty and eligible small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the early stages of consortium building and proposal development under Horizon Europe Pillar II. * This offering will provide short-term funding to facilitate travel and in-person engagement with European collaborators, addressing a well-recognized barrier to meaningful participation in one of the world’s largest research funding frameworks. Eligibility & Application Process * Applicants must identify a Horizon Europe Pillar II Cluster and a specific Destination. They must outline planned engagement activities that will support consortia participation. * There are no restrictions on academic disciplines or industry sectors; however, fields must align with Horizon Europe calls for proposals and/or corresponding European research consortia. * Applications must be submitted by one faculty member, with the option to include either one additional faculty member or one SME Partner Organization. Mitacs GRA Program Update

Hello colleagues, I have great news for you. The Expand Your Research Globally - Mitacs Globalink Research Award<https://www.mitacs.ca/our-programs/globalink-research-award/> (GRA) Program supports research collaborations between Canada and eligible countries and regions through international intern mobility. Mitacs has given the ULethbridge the opportunity to enhance the international mobility of its students and postdoctoral fellows by increasing the GRA program allocation from 5 to 8 internship units for the current fiscal year 2025-26 (ending March 31, 2026). Each intern will receive $6,000 per internship unit (IU): * $6,000 research award to conduct one 12- to 24-week research project in the other country. This is one internship unit (IU). * $12,000 research award to conduct one 24- to 48-week research project or two 12- to 24-week research projects in the other country. This is two internship units (IUs). The internship may be hosted by you in Canada (inbound) or involve sending your student abroad (outbound). Please note that for inbound mobility, all countries are eligible except for Russia and North Korea. A first-come, first-served basis will apply to the eight units.
