Good morning everyone,
There is a CIHR workshop tomorrow hosted by Dr. Sutherland. It will be an interactive time to review the application process, tips for successful applications, and review any questions you might have about the application.
Zoom link is here:
Topic: CIHR Workshop with Dr. Sutherland
Time: Aug 6, 2025 10:00 AM Mountain Time (US and Canada)
Join Zoom Meeting
https://uleth.zoom.us/j/99648972911
Meeting ID: 996 4897 2911
This 1.5-hour virtual workshop will be very interactive, and participants will learn more about:
* Drafting proposals to meet the adjudication criteria.
* Selecting peer review panels strategically.
*
Decoding reviewers' feedback & responding for successful resubmission.
The deadline to register a CIHR project grant is Wednesday, August 13, 6pm MST. Registration requires a short summary of the project, a total budget number, and key terms and identifying the institute and the committee you are applying to. Information about registration is found here: https://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/49503.html
For the registration, you do not need to work with ORIS or obtain institutional approval. The registration allows CIHR to prepare review committees to fit the application demand, so the summary and key terms you select will determine the background and expertise of the researchers who will review your application. Most of the information can be updated or changed between the registration and application stage (such as the other collaborators or co-applicants for the project).
The internal deadline for the full proposal is Wednesday, August 27. The external CIHR deadline is September 10, 6pm MST. I would be happy to work with you and provide feedback and information about the application.
If you have any questions, please let me know!
Cheers,

Dear colleagues,
You are invited to apply to the National Invention to Innovation (i2I) Skills Training Program<https://inventiontoinnovation.ca/programs/>.
This academic program is an NSERC-funded initiative designed to assist Canadian researchers in bridging the gap between scientific discovery and commercialization.
The i2I Program is tailored for research scientists and engineers looking to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and navigate the complexities of bringing innovations to market. Based on decades of academic research and industry expertise, i2I Skills training is an asynchronous online cohort-based program (running from September 2025 to April 2026) that equips researchers to address the capacity, culture, and connectivity needs of the Canadian innovation ecosystem.
The program is competitive, but fees are covered for accepted graduate students, post-docs, and faculty.
The program considers three commercialization paths, including scientist-entrepreneurs, innovation champions, and translational scientists. It is a great place to start if you are looking to build an entrepreneurial capacity in your lab, explore early commercialization ideas, or help entrepreneurial students find new pathways. Participants join a vibrant network of academic experts, industry mentors, and translational colleagues across Canada, fostering collaboration and connectivity within the innovation ecosystem.

* Deadline: June 30, 2025
Contact Tony Briggs (i2I(a)sfu.ca<mailto:i2I@sfu.ca>) if you have any questions about the application process.
Also, let me know if this interests you and if you plan to apply.

ORIS Seminar Reminder: TOMORROW, June 11, 2025
Title: Research Data Management: An Introduction to RDM
Overview: Join librarians as they introduce researchers to the information, tools, and resources that will prepare them for the emerging RDM landscape in Canada. The release of the Tri-Agency RDM Policy places new demands on researchers around the planning and use of research data. Many funding agencies now require a data management plan as part of their grant application. Researchers will learn what a data management plan is, the considerations when creating one, and how to incorporate research data management in their grant applications.
Time: 11:00-12:00
