Dear all,
I just published my translation of Bethany Nowviskie's talk at DH2014 into
Spanish
<http://elotroalex.webfactional.com/las-humanidades-digitales-en-el-antropoc…>.
I heard many folks outside of the auditorium who wished they could
understand more of the talk, since they understood enough to sense the
vitality of what was being said.
I hope my translation can inspire some of you in other language traditions
to take the trouble to translate it for other publics. It took me about 1
hour a day for a couple of weeks using markdown.
Best,
A.

Dear all,
I hope you don't mind my sharing this information to the list.
Last Wednesday I shared a dataset of 497 bibliographic entries of
scientific articles mentioning the keyword ‘Ebola’. Each entry links to the
article/paper/output itself.
http://epriego.wordpress.com/2014/08/06/ebola-crowdsourcing-type-of-access-…
I shared the dataset to crowdsource the type of access (open/paywalled) of
each paper and the type of license of each paper (All Rights Reserved/Some
Rights Reserved etc.).
By Friday last week the World Health Organisation had declared Ebola an
international health emergency.
Until now about 40% of the papers have the additional data required. The
intention is to complete the dataset, offering not only the main value of a
list of scientific articles on Ebola, but information about how many of
those are available without restrictions.
Crowdsourcing is a task dear to the digital humanities, and so is online
publishing. If any of you reading this could help working with us on the
dataset it will be appreciated. Even doing just one is a lot of help.
Follow the link above to reach the online spreadsheet.
With many thanks in advance,
Ernesto

Hello everyone,
This last weekend I attended Wikimania 2014 in London, UK. Wikimania is the
annual conference of the Wikimedia Foundation. 2000 people (and 200
volunteers) attended. More than 20k tweets tagged with #wikimania2014 were
posted over the weekend.
It was announced that Mexico City will be the host city for Wikimania 2015;
it will be held at the same venue as the last DH meeting organised by
RedHD.
This Wikimania had a very strong academic presence, with Jimmy Wales
stressing many times the importance of open access to academic and
scientific research. The "open scholarship" stream was very popular and
many key players in open access scholarship/open access publishing were
present as both audience and presenters.
At the Comics Grid blog we published a post by Cameron Neylon on what
academia can learn from Wikimania; I hope you can find some time to read
it:
http://blog.comicsgrid.com/2014/08/wikimania-we-need-to-choose-the-main-str…
I know Ernesto Priani is in touch with Iván from Wikimedia México; it seems
to me it would be very important to build on what was achieved in London
this year in terms of bridging the Wikipedia momevent with the open
scholarship movement and ensure that Mexican academics interested in the
wider, open dissemination of research on the Web have a space within
Wikimania 2015.
It would be great if RedHD could have a significant presence (through
logos, maybe a stand as well?) at the event in Mexico too.
Thoughts?
All the best,
Ernesto
