We are looking for two (2) Computational Linguist / Natural Language Processing developers for the ERC research project POSTDATA http://postdata.linhd.es/. The project, born at the Digital Humanities Innovation Lab from UNED, LINHD, is a Digital Humanities project which deals with poetry analysis, standardization and classification. It combines semantic web technologies, natural language processing and digital scholarship editing with the analysis of more than 30 poetry projects and databases in different European languages. The team is an interdisciplinary group of high-qualified researchers from different disciplines, from linguistics, philology and literature to computer science, mathematics and semantic web engineers.
Requirements for this position are:
* Knowledge of Natural Language processing (NLP) or Computational Linguistics
* Knowledge of NLP toolkits
* Experience using language technology in the Humanities
* Good programming skills in Python or Java
* Languages: Spanish and English
* Demonstrable good writing skills in English
* Experience with software version control (git)
* Autonomy combined with good communication and collaboration skills, team-oriented
Candidates must sent a short CV (maximum 4 pages) and a motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) explaining why they fit for the position, with references to previous projects developed.

The POSTDATA project would like you to participate in a special issue of the journal Revista de Poética Medieval. The issue will focus on the state of the art of poetic resources online. Thus, we would like you to write either a scientific paper or a technical report that must highlight the importance of an online poetic repertoire of any European tradition in Literary Scholarship.
Revista de Poética Medieval is indexed in multiple databases that verify the quality of the publication such as Latindex or ERIH Plus.
Please find attached the author guidelines (a Spanish version is available at the journal's website). Revista de Poética Medieval operates with a double blind peer review policy. In order to not rush the reviewing process, we ask you to be very mindful of the deadlines. The first version of your manuscript should be submitted before November 15th.

of the European Commission for the Open Science Monitor.

wish to raise a formal complaint to the European Ombudsman about the recent
announcement that Elsevier, a scholarly publisher and data analytics
provider, has been subcontracted to monitor the future progress of Open
Science in Europe.
This complaint was already submitted on 5th July 2018, but a second (and
third, and possibly fourth) set of signatures will be submitted.
More than 1000 colleagues have signed so far.
We have been asked to please spread the word to everyone who missed the
first deadline.

We are pleased to announce that the thirteenth meeting of the DHCS will be held at the Water Tower Campus of Loyola University Chicago on November 9-11, 2018.
The conference is interested in proposals for papers, panels, workshops, and posters from people at all ranks whose work contributes to the themes of the conference. Potential topics include (but are not limited to):
* visualization tools, theories, methodologies, and workflows to make sense of Big Data;
* digital approaches to textual studies;
* public digital humanities;
* digital accessibility;
* digital humanities pedagogy;
* preserving the digital humanities;
* digital gaming, critical play, game design, and gaming culture;
* creative coding and electronic literature;
* studies on uses and behaviors of Social media sites users;
* digital humanities technologies (e.g., mapping, text-mining);
* digital humanities project design/management;
* institutional DH partnerships and project-based collaborations;
* community-based online media practices;
* digital representation.
We hope the scope and topical breadth of the conference will stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue that crosses traditional professional barriers. We are particularly interested in international and underserved populations' perspectives on digital humanities and computer science.

* Panels (60-90 minutes)

We are very pleased to announce that Miriam Posner will be the keynote speaker for DHCS 2018.
Dr. Posner is an assistant professor at the UCLA School of Information and the Program in Digital Humanities. She's also a digital humanist with interests in labor, race, feminism, and the history and philosophy of data. As a digital humanist, she is particularly interested in the visualization of large bodies of data from cultural heritage institutions, and the application of digital methods to the analysis of images and video. A film, media, and American studies scholar by training, she frequently writes on the application of digital methods to the humanities.
