Dear colleagues,
The Call for Proposals for the 10th annual Global Digital Humanities Symposium closes next week, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, midnight in your timezone. We are also delighted to announce our keynote speakers for the 2025 Symposium and debut our new logo and overall look!
The Symposium will take place as a virtual event from April 2-4, 2025, and an in-person event at Michigan State University from April 7-8, 2025. We will celebrate the 10th Symposium by reflecting on global digital humanities as a field as well as our impact on this rich area of scholarship. We therefore invite presenters from previous Symposia to return to the conference and share how their work has developed since their presentation.
The CFP is available in English and Spanish (links below). Proposals and presentations are welcome in either English or Spanish for the virtual event, and in English for the in-person event. During the virtual Symposium, we will support live interpretation of presentations, as well as live English captions.
Full CFP - English - https://msuglobaldh.org/call-for-proposals-english/
Full CFP - Español - https://msuglobaldh.org/call-for-proposals-espanol/
This year, we especially anticipate and welcome presentations on the following topics:
*
Reflections on the Symposium itself–what has been our effect on the field?
*
Considerations of the “global” in DH
*
Trial, error, process, preservation, and project conclusion as part of DH praxis
*
DH approaches to misinformation, media, and rhetoric in a global election year
*
Labs, support networks, streams/variations, and infrastructure for Global Digital Humanities
Presentation formats vary for the virtual and in-person Symposium. See the full CFP for details and further presentation topics. Information about how proposals will be reviewed is available on the Proposal Guidelines page<https://msuglobaldh.org/proposal-guidelines/>.
Keynote Presenters Announced
The virtual symposium will feature presentations that showcase DH organizations from different parts of the world. We will hear from Ernesto Priani Saisó and Miriam Peña, speaking about RedHD, and Menno van Zaanen, speaking about DHASA.
The in-person Symposium will bring together past keynote presenters. Elizabeth LaPensée, Radhika Gajjala, and Schuyler Esprit will each give short presentations reflecting on the state of global Digital Humanities. Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla will moderate a discussion among the panel members looking toward the future of the field.
New Look
In celebration of the tenth Symposium, we are delighted to debut a new look for the Symposium, designed by Michigan State University alum Kailey Nguyen. You can view our new look on the website<https://msuglobaldh.org/> and on our social media.
Free registration for the Symposium will open in December 2024. Find out more at https://msuglobaldh.org/.
