Call for Nominations

Dear Colleagues, Several members of the GO::DH Executive Committee, who have graciously provided years of excellent service on the committee, are now moving on to other services elsewhere, even as they remain committed and supportive members of the organization. With their term now ended or coming to an end, we are now seeking at least four nominees for election and/or acclamation to the Committee. This will be for a two-year term of service beginning immediately after the election, from January 1st, 2021–December 31, 2022. All voting positions on the Committee are for two-year terms that can be renewed three times. We begin with a nomination period, which will close Tuesday, December 8 at midnight in all time zones, followed by a two-week elections period. The election will be held by electronic ballot open to all subscribers to the GO::DH mailing list. While the work of the GO::DH Executive Committee is not heavy, it is important to our community and the support of an approach to DH that recognizes, supports, and encourages linguistic, regional, and other forms of diversity. This year, GO::DH has launched a series of articles with translations in Digital Studies/ Le champ numérique, co-sponsored an African Digital storytelling Symposium at the University of Kansas, and prepared a new version of our website which will launch soon. We are about to submit our application to ADHO to move from a Special Interest Group to full organizational member, which will open up new opportunities for collaboration with other Constituent Organizations. We welcome your ideas and enthusiasm for other initiatives GO::DH can undertake! The editors of Visualizing Objects, Places, and Spaces: A Digital Project Handbook seek case study & assignment submissions to help answer this question. Visualizing Objects, Places, and Spaces: A Digital Project Handbook (https://handbook.pubpub.org/) is an open online publication designed to fill the gap between platform-specific tutorials and disciplinary discourse in digital humanities, digital scholarship, and digital pedagogy. Our next submission deadline is December 31, 2020. We are especially interested in case studies (research projects) and assignments that showcase archival, spatial, narrative, dimensional, and/or temporal approaches to digital pedagogy and scholarship. Dear GO:DH community, As you may have seen from our previous messages to this list, for this year’s Global Digital Humanities Symposium (https://msuglobaldh.org/) (April 12-15, 2021), we are excited to be able to accept proposals in Spanish and French, in addition to English. We hope the added linguistic diversity will help push the symposium further in its goal to draw a global mix of DH perspectives into conversation. The symposia of past years have been successful thanks to the generous contributions of our reviewers who have helped to shape engaging and wide-ranging scholarly programs. We’re hoping to expand our numbers this year, particularly with those who are readers of Spanish and French, and would love to have your participation. As a reviewer, you would be assigned 4 to 6 proposals, each of which you’d be asked to evaluate in a short online form. Call for French-English Interpreters for the Global DH Symposium (express interest by Dec 15, 2020)

Call for French-English Interpreters The Global Digital Humanities Symposium at Michigan State University is in need of French-English interpreters for the 6th annual Symposium, scheduled for April 12-15, 2021. This virtual event will take place synchronously using Zoom over four days, with approximately three hours each day of programming. Interpreters will work in shifts of not longer than 90 minutes each. Interpreters would be responsible for providing live French translation of conference presentations in English and English translation of presentations in French. During Q&A sessions, interpreters will provide translation of the presenter’s answers to questions, but are not responsible for translating questions asked by participants. Interpreters will be given a draft of each presentation a week in advance of the conference in order to assist with preparation. Compensation and Time Expectations $80 USD per hour Each interpreter is likely to be assigned six hours of live interpretation during the span of the Symposium, with an estimated five hours of preparatory work in advance of the event. Details and confirmation of the schedule will come when the program is announced in early February 2021. Preferred Qualifications * Native fluency in French * Experience with Digital Humanities and the Humanities generally * Experience providing live interpretation, especially for an academic conference or in another academic context (strongly preferred) Required Qualifications * Fluency in both English and French Technical Requirements * Must have access to a computer * Must have access to reliable and strong internet connection * Must have a quiet place for providing the interpretation * Ideally have quality headset and microphone Please be in touch with the Global DH Symposium Planning Committee by December 15, 2020 to express your interest in serving as an interpreter for the event. Dear colleagues, The Global Digital Humanities Symposium Planning Committee is pleased to EXTEND the Call for Proposals for the 6th annual Symposium, scheduled for April 12-15, 2021. This virtual event will take place synchronously over four days, with approximately three hours each day of programming. The Call for Proposals is available in English, French, and Spanish (links below), and proposals and presentations are welcome in any of these three languages. During the Symposium, we will support live interpretation of presentations in these languages. Live captions will also be provided for presentations given in English. Further details about this foray in supporting multilingualism at the Symposium are available in the CFP. Rather than a set presentation length, this project showcase will enable one-on-one feedback and ask presenters to share about their work in a more conversational and extemporaneous way.
