Dear all, I hope you are well. I hope that those of you that went to Mexico City (my home town) last week had a great time. I have just published a quick post to share the document I created including the #2EHD (2nd Digital Humanities Meeting in Mexico City organised by RedHD and GO::DH) tweets I archived between 13/05/201418:14:42 and 25/05/2014 20:35:42 Mexico City time. I also cleaned a set so it includes only the tweets published within the timeframe of the event (19-23 May 2014). Host Day of DH 2015+2016: centerNet CFP

Day of DH has been a centerNet initiative since 2012. MATRIX at Michigan State University has hosted Day of DH for two great years, and centerNet is accepting proposals for the next Digital Humanities center to host this worldwide event. So, now we need a new server and a group of dedicated people to continue the tradition. We are asking for a TWO YEAR hosting commitment for 2015 and 2016. MATRIX has graciously agreed to provide mentoring to the new center. Your center will need to meet these basic requirements: - install and directly manage a robust, high traffic multi-user WordPress/BuddyPress installation - create and manage your own domains - have in-house programming support to customize the look and feel of the WordPress/BuddyPress installation - be a paying member of centerNet. DiRT tool directory seeks editorial board

The DiRT directory, a longstanding, well-regarded source of information about tools available to support scholarship in the humanities, is soliciting applications for an editorial board, to ensure the coverage and accuracy of the directory's tool listings. DiRT editors will be expected to: - Add, edit, and review new tool listings - Periodically review existing tool listings, and update them as needed - Contribute to discussions about changes to DiRT's structure and features DiRT editors will be appointed to a voluntary two-year term, subject to renewal. The editorial board will meet virtually a minimum of twice a year, and will correspond as needed by email. The anticipated workload is 2-3 hours/month, and participants will be officially recognized on the DiRT site as ‘DiRT Editors’. To apply, please send a statement of interest, including the type(s) of tool listings you're most interested in curating (e.g. geospatial, text mining, etc.), to quinnd(a)berkeley.edu by May 23. Librarians and academic support staff are encouraged to apply; applicants from outside the United States and western Europe are particularly welcome. Applicants will be notified by 5/30.

Looking for a term

Hi all, I'm trying to remember a term that I heard Oyvind use recently to describe the situation when "experts from rich countries teach people in poor countries how to do things" (i.e. the "experts" set the agenda based on their own experience and assume that the knowledge direction is from rich to poor). This is a bad practice, even if it is done with good will. The term he used was something like knowledge transfer or translation (though neither of those are right). I'd never heard it before but it is apparently as well-known term in international work as something that people in the area need to be aware of and attempt to avoid. Reminder: CFP - Minimal Computing Working Group at DH2014

The GO::DH Minimal Computing Working Group will kickstart itself at DH2014 with a workshop. A key component of this workshop is a series of lightning talks (2-5 minute presentations) on current work going on in the area from around the globe. The deadline for submissions is May 1. As CFPs go the requirements are pretty light: just a single page on what you have been up to regarding minimal computing, whether it be working with hardware, software, theory, or any combination thereof. We even have provisions being put in place to include those who would like to participate but who will not be in Switzerland for DH2014. We can take up to 30 submissions for the workshop and expect that all submissions will be included in a bundled PDF file that will be circulated to the DH community and made available on the working group web page. Sound great but just finding out about this now? Need a little more time? Help Translate Call for Proposals

Dear GO::DH centerNet is about to send out a Call for Proposals for DH Centers who want to host Day of DH 2015 and 2106. We would like to put the call out in as many languages as possible. If you would be interested in helping with this, please send me an email at jean_bauer(a)brown.edu and I'll send you a link to the google doc. Please contact me using an email address associated with a Google Drive account and specify how you wish to be credited for your translation on the centerNet website.
