Dear all,
long time I don't read messages on this group, so I hope I'm not missing something! I'm on sabbatical and I'm spending a semester at the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Information Studies Department, where we're working on a small digital archive project. Among other things I'm trying to help building bridges among local communities, so we would be very *very* interested in sharing ideas with DH colleagues from East Africa (especially, but not limited to this region). I'm aware that are active DH groups in Kenya and Nigeria, but I don't have their contacts. Does anyone on this list how to reach them? Please contact me in private if needed.
Warmest regards to all
Nashukuru sana!
Domenico

Dear Domenico,
It would be great if contact details can be shared. Unfortunately, I don't have contact details of groups in Kenya, although Prof Tunde already replied for the group in Nigeria.
In South Africa, there is the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) https://sadilar.org . We also run a programme called Escalator: https://escalator.sadilar.org/ and part of that programme we have a Slack (Slack is like a chat programme) that can be used. (I'm sure we can also open that up for other groups in Digital Humanities who want to use this.) On https://escalator.sadilar.org/connect/ you can find how to join the Slack. Please let me know if you have difficulties joining the Slack. It would be great if you could introduce yourself when you're there in the #introductions channel.
By the way, all of you (members of the mailinglist) are welcome on the Slack. Don't forget to invite your colleagues as well!

Yes, I know Nanjala's terrific work! In fact after reading her interesting book "Digital Democracy, Analogue Politics" I invited her to write a piece for the Global Debates but after an initial interest she declined. In general it was very difficult to find DH scholars who work in Africa (except from South Africa) and who were willing to contribute to the collection. But now that I'm here in Tanzania I hope I can learn more so next time hopefully we would be able to fill that unforgivable gap!
Asante sana
