Hi all,
The Digital Diversity http://digitaldiversity2015.org/ conference happening right now in Edmonton needs our help!
They’ve started to create a timeline and map http://cwrc.ca/digitaldiversity2015/ dedicated to digital diversity, but it’s just a start, and it’s limited in terms of geographical and linguistic diversity. They would love our help in fleshing it out to represent a truly global range of events, activities, travesties, and achievements from multiple perspectives. They’re asking our community to join participants at the conference in creating events to add to the timeline. It’s easy to do either with a plain text editor or an XML editor, and contributed events will be uploaded at least twice a day while the conference is on. The timeline will be launched at the close of the conference on Saturday at 6:30 MDT, but contributions after that time will still be most welcome.
Please consider contributing one or more events that express your understanding of digital diversity. Instructions can be found here: http://digitaldiversity2015.org/digital-diversity-timeline/ The DD team thanks you in advance!
Let us know if you have questions.
All best,
From Susan Brown and me.

I beg to differ as to location for the third one. In many cases a web server is a physical thing; a machine located at a specific place. The place can be unknown, but it exists.

True, but it is accidental in this case for sure. My account at Dreamhost. So California if you privilege server location, Lethbridge if you favour billing address, and Lethbridge, New York, and wherever James O'Sullivan was when he did the revision, if you privilege human capital.

Does anyone else see analogies between the question of the location of a server on the internet and that of where the super-natural giver of christmas presents lives?
Once you free yourself from 'place' being a set of coordinates in Cartesian 3-space, all sorts of previously unanswerable questions become interesting. Harder to plot on google maps, but interesting none-the-less.
