Dear all,
I'm very glad to announce that a preliminary version of my book chapter "Digital Humanities from a global perspective" is online at:
http://www.ispf-lab.cnr.it/article/2014_203_Abstract
Thanks to everybody on the GO::DH list (and beyond) that has helped me to improve it when I shared it on Googledocs several months ago. I hope I corrected and revised every relevant oversight and imperfection, but please feel free to suggest further improvements for the book version!
Un abbraccio
Domenico
Thanks for sharing Domenico and congratulations on this excellent work!
All the best

Congratulations, Domenico! Great read, and very thought provocative. I hope that your article can spark some good debate here and elsewhere.
"Methods that have worked effectively in one cultural setting may fail spectacularly in another (and vice versa) and certain reasoning of how things should work does not apply similarly to other frameworks."
Yes! Couldn't agree more.

I enjoyed reading you chapter. In particular: "This gap between research and training opportunities is the most serious danger for the humanities at present. Without a new generation of digitally-trained colleagues, humanists will not only be at the mercy of computer scientists, engineers and technicians, but also, more importantly, will risk not being able to understand from the inside the actual mechanisms of knowledge production".
Thinking about the building of the ciberinfrastructure as well, I feel that in Mexico at least, it is all very Science led and so the little that we do have is based upon the way research is done in the hard sciences and not in the Humanities. So we have a double problem a) the ciber infrastructure is inappropriate and does not properly respond to humanist research needs b) we have very few humanists who can properly take advantage of it even if it was better designed.
Thanks for sharing.
Best,
Isabel
